Drexel Faculty Mentors: Russell Neilson, Naoko Kurahashi Neilson

Johannes is a PhD student in the ATLAS group at UC Berkeley. His primary research interest is in the intersection of experimental particle physics and machine learning. Currently, his research involves trying to improve ATLAS event reconstructions for Higgs to Charm decays with Graph Neural Networks. He started his research career at Drexel with the PROSPECT and PICO collaborations under Prof. Russell Neilson, where he worked on both detector hardware and software for his first two co-ops. For his final co-op, he went to Michigan State University to work on a neural-network based event reconstruction technique for the IceCube experiment under Prof. Claudio Kopper. He continued this work as part of his senior thesis under Prof. Naoko Kurahashi Neilson, graduating Drexel in Spring 2020.
